Farewell: Dr. Tsanyawa Commends Staff of the SMOH

By Ibrahim Abdullahi

The Commissioner Dr. Tsayawa Handing over to the Permanent Secretary Haj. Aisha Aliyu

The staffs of the Kano state ministry of health have been commended for their punctuality and dedication to duty.

The commendation was made by the Commissioner of the Ministry, Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, today while bidding farewell to the staffs as his tenure has come to an end.

It could be recalled that the Kano State Government has on 22nd May, 2023 through the office of the Secretary to the State Government issued a circular directing all political officer holders to hand over affairs of their offices to the most senior officer in MDAs.

The commissioner recalled that it was like yesterday when he stepped his legs into the ministry after been appointed by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, surprising that time is indeed flying.

Dr. Tsanyawa stated that he has met the staffs of the ministry very energetic and passionate to duty, maintaining that it is what aided him to discharge his responsibilities successfully.

He said, “Sincerely speaking, staffs of the ministry of health supersede their counterparts in other MDAs in terms of dedication to duty. It is a delight to us to come to the ministry at 8 in the morning and get the staffs have already reported to work, and they don’t go anywhere until the official time is off. This is surely very commendable.”

He further stated that, all the successes and commendations garnered during his stewardship were as a result of the maximum cooperation accorded to him by the staffs of the ministry, buttressing that “Without you these accomplishments wouldn’t have been achieved.”

“I sincerely commend you from the bottom of my heart. I urge you to redouble effort because the ministry of health is not like other ministries. It is the ministry that oversees health of the people. It is the ministry where slightest negligence will lead to the enormous problems and negative repercussions in the society.

“This ministry is a hub of healthcare system of the state. If we didn’t do what is expected on us, we couldn’t have called other staffs at the hospitals to order if they didn’t render services they are required to provide to the patients”, Dr. Tsanyawa warned.

The commissioner then enjoined them to extend similar cooperation to the next commissioner, urging them to give him all the needed support for the system to further flourish in order to meet up the yearnings of the people of the state and solicited forgiveness from any staff he wronged knowingly or unknowingly.

Dr. Tsanyawa then commended Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for given him the ample opportunity to serve the state at both the Hospitals Management Board and the Ministry of Health respectively, saying “This is an indication of true love and respect I enjoy from His Excellency. May Allah reward you and be your guide throughout your life.

Staffs who spoke during the event described Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa as humble, generous, simple and hardworking commissioner who they enjoyed working with.

GANDUJE: GOODBYE TO THE PEOPLE’S GOVERNOR IN WHOM I FIND A FATHER AND MENTOR

By Aminu Dahiru

Author: M.M. Marafa

Governor Ganduje with The SSA Photography Aminu Dahiru

On Monday May 29, 2023 His Excellency Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje would bow out, after meritorious service of two successful tenures of eight years as the Executive Governor of Kano State.

While I will leave office, too, before then as a special assistant to the governor on photography, I have to confess that it’s a sweet-bitter experience.

Governor Ganduje has touched many lives including mine. But being loyal and committed has endeared me to the governor, which I am very proud of.

My relationship with Governor Ganduje, which began as a working relation, i.e, principal-subordinate relationship, has affectionately transformed into a fatherly relationship. Governor Ganduje is a great mentor.

On one hand, I am excited that Governor Ganduje has come, sown and conquered. His footprints in infrastructural and human developments ranging from his health and education revolutions to economic development, and transportation reform would continue to adorn the “Centre of Commerce”.

However, I am partly sad because Kano State would miss a patriotic citizen who has sacrificed a lot to take the state to a greater height. Governor Ganduje started at the beginning. He hit the ground running as soon as he was sworn in as the executive governor of Kano State in 2015. He rolled up the sleeves of his shirt and began to work. The result of Governor Ganduje’s acumen is that the state is now a megacity comparable anywhere in the world. Thanks to Baba Ganduje’s ingenuity and his passion for Kano State.

Ganduje Ganduje had met the Kano project disjointed and disheveled, but within the space of less than eight years he combined various elements of development and perfected the project. Here is Kano towering above its peers. One interesting thing is that the more you interact with Governor Ganduje the more you are schooled in politics, governance and administration and the art of living; most importantly you learn some character-building traits: endurance, courage, patriotism, self-reliance, etc.

What do I know?

I am in a position to speak on the true character of Governor Ganduje, having worked closely with him for many years. Sometimes only sleep separated me from him. I also travelled alongside him to different states of the federation and tapped from his wealth of experience. Governor Ganduje would work round the clock.

Governor Ganduje is a complete gentleman. He is patient as well as accommodating. This is a man you will wrong today. He will forgive tomorrow and forge ahead. And life continues. Taunt Ganduje, he will not raise an eyebrow. Baba Ganduje is a kind of shock absorber. His in-built accommodating nature contributes to the peaceful Kano State.

Religiously Governor Ganduje is a moralist. Ganduje would consult Islamic clerics before taking any decision, whether in health, economy or education. They are the custodians of public morality and Governor Ganduje holds them in high esteem. Clerics had never been given such pride of place.

Years before he became governor Baba Ganduje had converted thousands of people into the religion of Islam. He organized tens of prayer sessions. I believe this is a continuous project. In the eight years he has spent as the governor, he converted thousands more.

Politics without Bitterness

One of the precedents Governor Ganduje set in the eight years he has spent governing Kano State is politics without bitterness. He related well even with members of the opposition parties in the state in specific and in the country at large.

When he was returned as the duly elected governor of the state in 2019 he promised a government of unity and fulfilled that promise by appointing members of opposition parties into key positions.

Ganduje never witch-hunted anybody, despite the humongous infractions committed by the preceding administration. He knows he himself is not infallible. For this he did not waste time in unnecessary vendetta.

However, he completed all the projects he inherited from the previous administration and executed new ones. In terms of infrastructural development in the history of Kano State, Governor Ganduje is second to none.

Between Ganduje and his Adversaries

A successful man will never be alone. He attracts friends as well as enemies. Enduring experience, tolerance and friendliness have fetched Governor Ganduje life-long friends from almost every corner of the country.

In another breath, his adversaries are after him for two reasons: Governor Ganduje is a self-made man, meaning he worked assiduously for every inch of his successes. He is a man you can’t silence or intimidate.

Second, his adversaries are afraid that his towering achievements are eclipsing theirs. They want to personalize the state, but Governor Ganduje has his own way.

Here is a governor who would tap you on the back for the same action others would rebuke you.

Ganduje is not mean man

Tolerance and empathy described Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje the most. All of the years I have spent under Governor Ganduje I know that he has a good working relationship with his subordinates. His cabinet is the liveliest. He would celebrate and sympathize with each of the members.

As I say goodbye to the people’s governor, I don’t mean this will be the end. I will remain loyal.

As the Legendary Mahatma Gandhi once said, “There are no goodbyes for us, wherever you are, you will always be in my heart”. So, I only mean May God the Almighty be with you Baba as you embark on another phase in your life.

The Time and Legacies of Dr. Zainab Ibrahim Braji as She Heads Kano State Bureau for Land Management.*

By Murtala Shehu Umar

Hajiya Zainab Ibrahim Braji
Director General Bureau for Land Management

No doubt every beginning has an end. In December 2019, we gathered, received and welcomed Dr. Zainab Ibrahim Braji when she assumed duty. She was transferred from the Council Affairs Directorate as Permanent Secretary, to head Kano State Bureau for Land Management with the same rank.

Dr. Zainab Ibrahim Braji, a seasoned academic, started her career as Assistant Lecturer at Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education where she held many, many positions such as: Head of Department, Examination Officer, Faculty Dean up to the position of Director.

Because of her commitment, dedication and hard work. In June 2019, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje chose her among thousands of Kano State civil servants and  appointed her as Permanent Secretary in the state civil service.

After her appointment, Dr. Zainab Braji was posted to Kano State Council Affairs Directorate, the utmost decision-making council where she contributed and brought positive changes within her six-month stay.

She was later redeployed to Kano State Bureau for Land Management as Permanent Secretary after completing her years of service on 25th November 2022 as Director General. “Dambu mai-hawa biyu”.

Dr. Braji is the first female to head Land and Survey since the creation of the ministry in 1975 and she did so for two consecutive terms.

During her stay, Dr. Zainab Ibrahim Braji brought so many changes in land management and administration such as: introducing Private layout, re-introducing and reviving One-stop-shop, creation of about 20 new layouts and contributed towards boosting state IGR.

Other achievements are settling land disputes at Fanisau layout, western bypass layout, Kofar Waika Layout, and Dawanau 196 Layout, to mention just a few.

On staffers’ matter, Dr. Braji boosted the morale of staffs both the junior and senior ones by appreciating and rewarding any staff who dedicated himself/herself to duty, and inculcating discipline among staff.

As an academic who knows the value of education, Dr. Braji encouraged staff members to go and further their education,  attending seminars, workshops both at home and abroad, provision of working materials, good conducive atmosphere to workers and she has an open door policy.

To meet the best ICT global practices, Dr. Braji recorded a huge success in that direction because land automation processes has reached 60 to 70 percent.

Mama, as we called her, is truly a mother who cares, loves and shows a sense of belonging to those who have been working with her right from Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education to Kano State Bureau for Land Management.

Today, we have gathered again to appreciate what have done to the Bureau and land administration in general. No doubt, Dr. Zainab Ibrahim Braji’s name will be written in Gold because of the transformation she has brought to land management and administration in Kano State.

When writing this “article”,  my pen dropped, my heart beat like a drum, my eyes turned to an ocean, the ocean full of hot water spilled out and burnt my cheeks, when I realized the my situation I said: “From God we came and to Him we shall return.” So I came back to my senses and continued writing till the end.

Mama we really, really miss you but missing you for a while because you left some good legacies which will remain  permanently in our hearts and land management and administration in general.
