Home Front Political Rivalry Between UAG & RMK

Ahmad Fouad

The rivalries between two political heavyweight in Kano politics has casted  a shadow over Kano state. Once are inseparable comrades working together where at early stage of feud  many not believed there would be  antagonism between them.

Other viewed the rivalries  is stage manage to divert their followers attention .initially  they  both denying of the existed  cracked until  2019, when kwankwaso perceived his followers  can voted Ganduje out of office in the election of that year by anointed his political  godson  to contested  gubernatorial seat under PDP but Ganduje defeated him which to UAG and supporters attributed the defeat  not for AYK but to his political godfather RMK.

The spilled over to the last election won by Kwankwaso’s NNPP, led to  witch-hunt targeting Ganduje, anything and everybody around him has continued unabated. The demolition spree at Filin Idi,Daula, race recourse and other places  has escalated tensions further. There are allegations that the government is not just undermining  former administration of Ganduje but sponsoring some of unpleasant issues  again him.

Despite the potshots thrown at him, Ganduje has remained unfazed, and  ignored threats from the state government to drag him and his family to the mud or court of public opinion despite the embarrassment caused them. The NNPP led government in Kano aimed to pull him down at all cost, which has been perceived as vendetta and a fall-out of the Ganduje-Kwankwaso feud.  Dr Ganduje family was also embroiled in litigations with the Kano State government, after the latter dragged the family to court over corruption related issues. For the first time a state governor took his predecessor, family to court over the misappropriation of public funds.

As political observer in the nation political space UAG   became vulnerable to political conspiracies from home front  by his political foes, paid fake party officials

from his ward to suspended him when the genuine party officials in his ward distance themselves. The ward party rebels were obviously acting out a script, judging by the antecedents of such dramas in the nation political space.

State  party, chairman Abdullahi Abbas,  dismissed the suspension as invalid, null and void. Those who called themselves the authentic leadership of the party in the ward also denounced  Magwanjo as an impostor and affirmed the continued membership of Mr Ganduje and their confidence in his leadership.

So who wrote the script for the fake ward party officials seeking to suspend  Ganduje? Who sponsor unsubstantiated  court case against his leadership? Why NNPP-led state government of orchestrating the drama.

As God’s destiny made him the National Chairman of the ruling party the second most important position in the party after president office  without lobbying for it.   There is  directive from ministry of local government   that all the lands allocation   from  May 2015 to 2023 has been revoked and the announcement revocation was made in the Radio.

As it’s appear at the end of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s tenure,he  was not  keen in  joining the ranks of outgoing  governors of the ruling party desperation to be part of president Tinubu led cabinets. From his body language it’s seem like want to have a deserving rest at the expired of his tenure by  embarked  on  sabbatical  Leave.

In August last year, the National Executive Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) confirmed the former Governor of Kano State, as the national chairman of the party. Following the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu, resigned as the National chairman.

The choice of Ganduje wasn’t far-fetched, the party needed someone in his mould who could steady the ship of the party in a seamless and crisis-free manner, while taking various interests into cognizance.

Speaking after his emergence, Ganduje assured that his main focus would be to promote party unity, defending and increasing the number of executive and legislative seats the party currently holds.

“It’s a huge privilege and an honour and a great responsibility to take on this job and I will do it with everything I have to the best of my ability for my party and my country. We will ensure a level playing field for all party members that want to contest elections under the party’s platform. Our primary elections would be free, transparent and fair.

“Under  my watch, internal democracy will be strictly adhered to with a deliberate policy to engage in wider consultations and make the party functional throughout the year

It was Dr Ganduje current National Chairman of the ruling party and former Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State were the first APC governors in Northern Nigeria to openly support Mr Tinunu’s presidential ambition.  They  were instrumental in persuading their governor colleagues on power rotation to the south, which made it easier for Mr Tinubu to pick the APC ticket and become president.

His bond with Mr president is believed to have began before the APC primaries. In March 2021, the then Kano state Executive Governor hosted Mr Tinubu’s 12th birthday colloquium in Conoration Hall at the state House kano.

While national chairman  battle  is still raging at home front perfected by NNPP led government. They went ahead to use some disgruntled members of the party who initiated the legal action at the FCT High Court of Justice has joined the fray in dragging the APC chairman to court for “illegal stay in office.

Based their grouse on a zonal arrangement “agreed” to at their 2022 national convention that ceded the national chairmanship position to the North-Central. Ganduje is from the North-West.

At this point  only time will tell if Mr president will reciprocate  Ganduje’s decision to stood for  Tinubu when several northern politicians and governors worked against him in the buildup to the 2023 general election.

It was Dr Ganduje and former Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State were the first APC governors in Northern Nigeria to openly support Mr Tinunu’s presidential ambition and were instrumental in persuading their governor colleagues on power rotation to the south, which made it easier for Mr Tinubu to pick the APC ticket and become president.

His bond with Mr president is believed to have began before the APC primaries. In March 2021, the then Kano state Executive Governor hosted Mr Tinubu’s 12th birthday colloquium in conoration Hall at the state House kano.

Why Ganduje’s visible and invisible foes  going extra miles to pull him out of the office, but remain unfazed assured his led NWC and his supporters that his suspension was fabricated and he understood it.  Any attempt for removing  him as APC chairman will fail and he will remain as the chairman and assured his supporters that the president is ‘solidly’ behind him in the ongoing drama.

A question need an answer if Mr president Can stand for   Gabduje’s head.  May likely  Mr president will stand by Abdullahi Ganduje, as the national chairman of the party to reciprocate Ganduje’s gesture and costly decision for stood with Asuwaju when no one wants to be identified with him for the fears of then Cabal in Aso Villa. Let visible and invisible foes of Ganduje leave him alone to continue serving the party as some of the foes are not in the same party with him. While  some disgruntled members of the party are doing other dirty jobs. Only Time will tell, in spite In politics there is no permanent friend but permanent interest.

Why Insecurity In The North West Remains vicious

By Abba Dukawa

Crime of any sorts has nothing do with region, tribe or religion the individuals behind such actions as kidnappings and killings in the country are motivated by their raw passions and not that of Islam or tribe. They are  Muslims but that does not mean their actions represent the ideals of Islam. They action  does not mean their tribe and does not mean represent tribes the belong.

As the affected state have been hit by an unprecedented wave of  fear and uncertainty over insecurity let them  fully adopt Islamic law  capital punishment  for bandits and kidnappers. Both states are under Sharia Legal System, the  criminal elements and  informant are Muslim so applied Islamic law on them this has not violated they right of life as the nation’s constitution guarantee them even Nigeria outlaws ransom payments, kidnap now punishable by death.

In 2022, Nigerian Senate has passed a bill imposing jail terms of at least 15 years for paying a ransom to free someone who has been kidnapped, and made the crime of abduction punishable by death in cases where victims die.The bill, which amends Nigeria’s terrorism law, mandates the death penalty for convicted kidnappers where the abduction leads to loss of life, and life imprisonment in other cases.

For over  the 1445 year-Islamic law prescribes the death penalty for four crimes: murder, highway robbery and  homicide. Why the punishment should  be carried in accordance with Islamic legal systems the criminals are Muslims also  Islam made  evildoers to account for they crime. Islam forbids targeting non-combatants by killing or by kidnapping or taking them as hostages, or inflicting any kind of injury on anyone. Talk less of do the same for follow Muslim.

Let the  criminal elements and  informant who are  convicted they should be killed publicly    in  their communities as this would be a deterrent to other underworld elements.

Why Insecurity In The North West Remains vicious

Last year, Nigeria was rated 144th position in the 2023 safest countries in the world ranking.  The yearly Global Peace Index ranks 163 independent states and territories according to their level of peacefulness.

For more than decades, issue of insecurity in Nigeria has become something of grave concern to all  citizens, most of whom continue to wonder how the country arrived at such a dastardly situation where no one is safe; and worse still, rather than abate, the problem is escalating and now almost out of control. Insecurity in Nigeria is a recurring phenomenon that threatens the well-being of its citizens.

North-west was plagued into  a surge of  kidnapping, herder-farmer crisis, and banditry. The conundrums in Kaduna, Katsina Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states.  the  challenge poses a severe threat to the north-west and the entire nation where the states and the country at large is treading  dangerously on the edge of the abyss.

For almost a decade kidnapping, herder-farmer crisis, and banditry has remain vicious which have disrupted   socio-economic activities of the people with absence of proven economic drivers.

It is disheartening that the situation in the vulnerable local government areas caused untold fear and psychological drift to the people of the affected people.

To end the problem, concerted efforts are needed as these  kidnappers and bandits have more guts to continue perpetrating more crime against armless and defenseless people. They move from house to house, village to village; towns and to the  market, with AK-47 rifles openly, purchasing foodstuffs and other items with some even collecting tax from the people.

The watchers of the events appreciate Governor Radda’s  stand for declaring boldly that his administration would not have  any   forms of truce with them and would ensure liberating his people from any fear and  eradicating the menace even if it may cost his life.

True to his assurance, since  the beginning of his administration, security remains his top priority as he displayed unwavering commitment to fight the insecurity in his state.

Even before his inauguration, he   set up a committee of well-versed senior security personnel who retired from different national security institutions.   The committee has consulted    with serving and retired security officers from the state to have a complete understanding of the dynamics of insecurity and the operational security architecture in the state.

Radda’s administration efforts to curtail criminals elements, extrajudicial killing and  their audacity of  roaming towns and villages at their will, wrecking havoc is appreciable. The administration has  spent over  N5.4 billion and N2 billion for the procurement of arms and ammunition including purchase of  Armoured Personnel Carriers deployed to the eight prone insecurity areas including Jibia, Safana, Batsari, Danmusa, Kankara, Faskari, Sabuwa, and Dandume.

While addressing the corps, Governor Radda harped on the need for them to be of good conduct and conduct their assignments in a responsible manner. Added that “You are not just protectors, but also role models, mediators and pillars of support. Your uniform is a symbol of hope, assurance and trustworthiness.
In spite of his administration’s financial commitments to end the menace, there is a need to collaborate with neighbouring states and  international partners in dismantling transnational criminal networks.

For the benefit of  hindsight,  the efforts remain an uphill battle; something new has to be tried and the existing laws have to be changed to protect the people of the state along the way. Sometimes you have to try new and creative ways to solve problems of insecurity in the state.

There is a need for further investment in technology and infrastructure, coupled with adequate training and equipping of security operatives to enhance their operational effectiveness and responsiveness.

Let federal, state government and other local and international stakeholders to  provide security agencies  with  modern equipment to track down the criminals. When Dr Radda  featured on Channels Television’s Politics Today.  Said

Insecurity it has turned out to be a business venture for  for the criminals, some people who are in government; some are in security outfits, and some are responsible for the day-to-day activities of their people. Let the affected states governments remain ruthless to those behind the insecurity.

PART 2: America And France Military Bases In Nigeria: Kudos To President Tinubu’s Government For Saying No

By Abbati Bako,psc,bsis Kent-alumni UK’s European University

Why does the US and France want to have military bases in Nigeria and for what purpose? And again, why did the Government of President Bola Tinubu refuse to welcome the idea?

*The analysis of the situation——-

This writing understands that the answer to this question is very simple. Meaning we have to look at what experts have said about why the African Nations are still in the position of under development compared to other countries of the North or even within the South South Nations.

This writing is on the same page with Professor Paul Collier of Oxford University, London (recent research 2024 indicates that Oxford University is number one top best University in the world and superseded Yale, Harvard, California University of Technology and the rest of them and my alumni BUK at the position of 1,001 and congratulations to V/C Professor Sagir) African Economies at the Oxford University. Collier is the world-renowned expert on development issues  and expert on African Continent’s economies. This scholar mentioned four key issues that restricted African nations to develop (“The Bottom Billion,UK,2009”).

1. Bad governance
2. Conflicts
3. Trapped resources
4. Landlocked.

Let me start with the number 3. It’s a known fact that the African Continent of the World has been under exploitation for the past hundreds of years. It’s true that 35% of global resources has been deposited in Africa (DR of  Congo is an excellent example estimate indicates that there are Trillions of Dollars worth resources in DR Congo) unfortunately that the resources has been “trapped” by both advanced and emerging Nations of the World as mentioned by Professor Paul Collier. Had it been that the global leadership is fair and just (for the attention of International Public Policy Makers IPP) Africa could have been the same with at least Asian Tigers’ part of the World. But Africa has been programmed to be the consumer Continent despite the trapped resources of  regions and tapping by the advanced and emerging Nations of the World. The African Development Bank asserts that 56 African Nations  have no 2% of the global economy.

Unfortunately and again that an expert on global political economy Professor Robert Gilpin observed that “Sub Saharan African Countries cannot account for 1% of the global economy” and it’s true that Africa is still the most backward in terms of economic interplay, economic security and the security of individuals’ daily needs. Africa is the poorest, most underdeveloped among the six Continents of the World.

Hence this writing understands that the essence behind the establishment of military bases in Nigeria must be for the continuation of “trapped resources” as observed by the respected Oxford University scholar Paul Collier especially in Northern Nigeria and other regions of the country. Exploitation of African resources has been the root cause of the imbalance of the global economy especially at this time of modernism or tagged as the era of “Globalization Policy”.

*Let’s move and try to analyze number 4

America And France Military Bases In Nigeria: Kudos To President Tinubu’s Government For Saying No!

By Abbati Bako,psc,bsis,UK, Kent-alumni

It’s no longer news that the USA is the current global political, economic and military power for the past more than seventy years after WW11.

Experts assert that the United States of America is the largest global economy with about 26% of global GDP despite the fact that they have only 4% of the global population. And again that 98% of global territorial waters are under the watch of America. Meaning that, no ship can cross both sides of the Atlantic ocean and Pacific without the knowledge of the United States of America (George Friedman, 2009).

On political power they have more say politically  than any country in the world. They have a Veto Power in the United Nations. They have the largest non-state actors for the reason of political say and economic interplay/investments than any other country.

They are the only nation in the world that became a global leader and maintained the position for about 78 years compared to other former global leaders that only led the world  for only 50 years each; such as the British, France, Spain and Portugal (Professor John Groom,UK, 2010).

The military might have more modern  fire power such as thousands of nuclear warheads and other newly invented modern weapons than any other country of the world. They have military bases in Japan, S/Korea, Jordan and other parts of the world. They have more submarines on both sides of the Atlantic. And again more than 700,000  armies that are always combat ready as well as many war planes carriers in all global territorial waters in all Continents of the world. They have the most cosmopolitan, recent or sophisticated weapons in the history of the world.

France is one of the world’s most modern nations. They are among the G7 nations. They are the third most wealthy nation in Europe after Germany and Britain. They colonized many countries around the world especially in Africa and Latin America. They have Veto Power in the United Nations like the US, UK, China and Russia. They have modern weapons and political say like any other influential country in the world. Also, they are among the G7 nations in the world or global top 10 economic nations.

They have military might and bases especially in the African Continent. France is one of the world’s historic countries.

Why does the US and France want to have a military base in Nigeria and for what purpose?

To be continued InshaAllah
