Kano Capital School Financial Mismanagement Committee Submits Report

Kano Ministerial Committee set up to investigate the alleged fraud of financial mismanagement at Kano Capital School has submtted it’s final report with recommendations aimed at addressing issues affecting smooth operation of the school.

Recall that on 21st March, 2024, 11-member committee under the leadership of the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education Hajiya Kubra Imam was set up to investigate the long existing problems associated with financial mismanagement and other staff claims at Kano Capital School.

Receiving the report from the committee in his office, Kano State Commissioner of Education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa maintained that government would ensure full implementation of the committee’s recommendations to bring positive changes in the school.

” This committee has competent and exprienced people that can help to overcome the problems undermining progress of this school over some years. I therefore want to commend you for taking your time to come up with this report which I believe will be the step forward in tackling the worried condition of Kano Capital School.

” I want to therefore assure you of this administration’s commitment to take appropriate actions in line to what is been submitted as report of the committee. Government will always be ready to entertain any other advice or observations as regard to how we can collectively solve the long existing problems bedevilling the progress of this school ” he stated.

Umar Doguwa however, reemphasized that the present administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf is very committed in its effort to restore the quality of the state education sector, pointing out that to this end, the state had begun full implementation of the designed 14-points agenda to achieve the set objectives.

He said very soon the state would embark on massive schools enrolment programme, distribution of instructional materials and reopening of the boarding schools closed down by the past immediate past administration to ensure conducive learning environment.

Doguwa added that the administration will soon commence disbursement of upkeep allowance to Principals, distribution of adequate schools furnitures and distribution of free uniforms for primary schools pupils across the state.

He therefore called on the people to complement effort of the administration by giving maximum support and coorperation towards ensuring that the new policies initiated on education are well implemented.

Presenting the final report of the committee’s findings to the Commissioner, the Chairman of the committe also former Excutive Secretary Kano Senior Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSSMB) Muhammad Idris maintained that upon inauguration of the committee, the members mobilised for the pursuit of the assignment given to them.

He revealed that the committee was able to make a thorough review of the financial records, budgets and expenditures of the school for the past two years, stressing that recommendations were also attached with report for proper action.

Idris further thanked government for providing them with all supports needed to make their work successful, stressing that members of the committee would continue to remain committed for any other duty that may be given to them in uplifting education in the state.

Other mandates assigned to the committee as contained in a statement issued to the press by the Director Public Enlightenment Ministry of Education Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru include analyzing teacher recruitment and salary payment procedures to identify inefficiency, conducting thorough audit of the school’s financial records as well as maintaining open communication with relevant stakeholders to ensure good outcome.

A Critical Analysis of President Bola Tinubu’s Policies in the Context of World Bank and IMF Interventions in Nigeria:

There is a serious lack of economic growth and development in Nigeria. Stagflation is becoming Nigeria’s cancerous illness which led the nation into intensive care units (ICU). Currently, Nigeria is Africa’s largest economy, and is at a crossroads.

Despite its vast natural resources and potential, the country faces severe insecurity and economic aridity and challenges. President Bola Tinubu’s administration has introduced economic reforms, but their effectiveness is uncertain as Nigeria approaches the election year 2027. This analysis examines the impact of these reforms, World Bank, and IMF interventions on Nigeria’s economic growth, stability, and development as it’s happening in almost all global South. This writing is on the same page as Dr. Ngozi the Director General of World Trade Organization (WTO) at the meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

In her words Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, WTO Director-General “expressed concern about Nigeria’s development, citing:

1. Lack of policy consistency due to frequent changes in administration.
2. Need for a social contract to protect essential policies from political changes.
3. Politicization of security, contributing to current challenges.
4. Urged for a unified approach to governance and protecting national assets.

While President Tinubu’s reforms aim to address Nigeria’s economic challenges, there are concerns about their implementation and potential consequences. The World Bank and IMF interventions have had mixed results, with some arguing they exacerbate economic instability, precarity and aridity.

1. Inclusive economic growth and development strategies based on calendar time frame
2. Human capital development
3. Infrastructure investment
4. Diversification and industrialization
5. Serious anti-corruption measures

*Conclusion:

President Tinubu’s economic reforms and World Bank and IMF interventions must be carefully evaluated to ensure they promote sustainable economic growth, stability, security and serialization of strategic development on railroads infrastructure in Nigeria to hasten economic growth and development. And a balanced approach addressing the country’s unique challenges and leveraging its strengths is this crucial time of globalization policy. By implementing inclusive and sustainable policies, Nigeria can unlock its potential and achieve economic prosperity that will make the Global South of the World to imitate. If President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s team ship ignored the above-mentioned assertions (or any better options mentioned above) the possibility of winning the 2027 elections will be a mirage.

Internal Security Commissioner Visits Security Agencies Seek for Collaboration.

The newly appointed Kano State Commissioner of Internal Security and Special Services, Major General Muhammad Inuwa Idris (rtd) said his ministry will work closely with security agencies in the state to ensure safe and more secured environment for all residents of Kano State.



The Commissioner made this known when he paid familiarization visits to the Nigeria Air force, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, Kano State Police Command, Department of Security Services and Cooperate Security Training Institute Gabasawa.



Major General Idris (rtd) disclosed that the visit was aimed at introducing himself and the ministry to the heads of security agencies in the state and to seek for synergy, collaboration and understanding between the new ministry and their respective organizations.



The Commissioner expressed happiness over good working relationships existing between the security agencies and the state government, adding that,  “I look forward to ensuring that this excellent relationship is sustained and improved upon”.



General Idris disclosed that, his ministry will work closely with all the security agencies, religious and community leaders in the state in order to reduce crimes and criminalities to the lowest level.



He maintained that, the issue of security challenge should not be left to the government alone, but should be seen as a challenge that concerns all and sundry.



While at the Corporate Security Institute at Gabasawa, the commissioner was conducted round by Director General of the Institute CP Muhammad Kabir Gwarzo Rtd who informed him that, the Institute has the capacity to train over 500 trainees at a time.



He however, called on the government to expand the Institute and address the challenges be devilling its smooth operations.



Responding, the heads of the agencies congratulated  Major General Muhammad Inuwa Idris, Rtd for his appointment as pioneer commissioner and pledged stronger collaboration with the ministry to achieve its mandates and responsibilities.



The Commissioner was accompanied to the visits by the Director General, Special Services, AVM Ibrahim Umaru Rtd, Special Adviser on Drugs Abuse, Brid. General Gambo Ahmad Mai-aduwa Rtd, Special Adviser on Joint Security, Air Commodore Yusha’u Tudan-wada Rtd, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, DanAsabe Yahaya among others.

Kano Commences Orientation Programme For 50 Students Of Al-Azhar Versity Scholarship

Kano State Government has commenced 9-day extensive orientation programme for 50 students awarded scholarship by the Al-Azhar University of Egypt.

The administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf had recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with management of Al-Azhar University during which the University awarded free scholarship programme to 50 Kano students to study Arabic law courses.

Addressing the participants during the  orientation programme taking place at Government Girls College, Kano, the State commissioner of Education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa stated that at the end of the orientation exercise, 80 students from Islamiyya Schools across the 44 local government areas of the state would sit for an examination after which the best 50 among them would be considered qualified for the scholarship.

Umar Doguwa explained that professional teachers were assigned to conduct the orientation exercise, adding that 5 Ulamas were also invited to deliver lectures to the students to make them well prepared for the journey a head.

” I want to assure you that the present administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf will do everything possible to make you feel comfortable while pursuing your study. We are going to explore more opportunities that will provide access to quality education for our students ” said Doguwa.

The Commissioner disclosed that the administration is taking  positive steps to restore the lost glory of the state education sector which include conduct of massive schools enrolment, distribution of instructional materials to schools and reopening of the boarding schools closed down by the past immediate past administration.

He added that preparation had been completed to commence provision of upkeep allowance to schools, distribution of adequate schools furnitures and free uniforms to ensure condusive learning environment, stressing that the administration had already awarded the construction of classrooms across the 44 local government areas of the state.

Doguwa who congratulated the students for having the scholarship, charged them to become good ambassadors of the state and remained committed towards their studies.

In a short lecture delivered during the orientation exercise, the State Hisbah Commander General Sheik Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa emphasized the need for the students to imbibe the spirit of hardworking, loyalty and perseverance while they are at the University.

Daurawa further commended the administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf for its commitment towards improving the education sector.

Speaking on behalf of the beneciaries, Abdulkarim Abubakar Mamman, student from Kumbotso local government area thanked Kano State government and Al- Azhar University for giving them the opportunity to be the beneficiaries of the programme.

Earlier, the programme coordinator Dr. Abdulkadir Kurawa expressed gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for giving them all the necessary support in making the programme successful.

KNSG to Establish KASCEPS Satellite Campus at Minjibir LGA

The Kano State Government has approved the establishment of a new satellite campus for the Kano College of Education and Preliminary Studies (KASCEPS) at Minjibir Local Government Area.


This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata.

Dr. Kofarmata stated that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that youths have access to tertiary education, regardless of where they reside.


According to him, the governor directed the Ministry for Higher Education to collaborate with the Ministry of Land to facilitate all necessary processes for acquiring land from the Ministry of Water Resources, which is currently unused, to serve as the site for the KASCEPS satellite campus, given the importance of education in the state.


Similarly, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Kofarmata, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Muttaka Iliyasu, paid an inspection visit to the proposed site for Kano Polytechnic’s satellite campus at Gaya Local Government Area.


The inspection team included the Director of Quality Assurance, Dr. Lukuman T. Suraj, the Director of Physical Planning Engr. Yahaya A. Baba, the Director of Works, the Director of Academic Planning, and the TETFUND Desk Officer from Kano Polytechnic.


The team also paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Gaya, Dr. Ali Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya, who expressed his delight at the proposed establishment of the satellite campus, describing it as a positive step toward promoting education, especially in rural areas.


The Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Ali Abdulkadir, thanked the state governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his dedication and commitment to enhancing the education sector.

KNSG INAUGURATES CONSTRUCTION OF 3KM ROADS IN TOFA LGA

The Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has inaugurated construction of 3 kilometer road at Tofa local Government at Tashar Ulele to Jagaja as part of community development services in the area.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf who was represented by Director General of Rural Access and Mobility Projects Directorate, Engineer Sarki Ahmed
during the inauguration ceremony, stressed the importance of infrastructure development in rural areas to improve the quality of life of the people.

He emphasized that the construction of the 3 kilometre road will not only provide better access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and markets, but will also boost economic activities in the community.

In his remarks, Engineer Sarki Ahmed assured the people of Tofa Local Government that the construction of the road will be carried out with high quality standards and within the stipulated timeframe.

He encouraged the community to cooperate with the construction team and to provide any assistance needed to facilitate the project.

The people of the community has expressed their gratitude for the commencement of the road construction project and  praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritizing rural development and promised to support the successful completion of the project.

Earlier speaking, the interim management committee chairman of the area, Alhaji Abubakar Suleiman Mai Rogo thank Almighty Allah and Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf for the construction of the road which according to him when completed it will boost agricultural productivity in the area.

Alhaji Abubakar Suleiman Mai Rogo also urged the community members to support and cooperate with the contractors to ensure the successful completion of the project and assured them that the local government is committed to providing basic amenities that will enhance their standard of living.

In his goodwill message, the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sunusi II, represented by Alhaji Sunusi Abubakar Tofa enjoined the people of the area to make good use of the road and ensure enrollment of  children to have better access to education.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by government officials, community leaders, and residents of Tashar Ulele and Jagaja.

MINISTER OF DEFENCE CONDEMNS KILLING OF DISTRICT HEAD OF GATAWA, CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE ARREST OF PERPETRATORS

“The killing of the District Head of Gatawa is a callous and cruel act that will not be tolerated”

The Honourable Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has strongly condemned in totality the gruesome killing of the Head of Gatawa District in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Alhaji Isa Bawa describing it as wicked and unimaginable.

In the light of this, the Minister has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators, assuring that the Nigerian military will leave no stone unturned in bringing them to justice.

“The killing of the District Head of Gatawa is a callous and cruel act that will not be tolerated,” the Minister said. “We will do everything in our power to ensure that those responsible are held accountable and brought to book.”


In a statement signed by the Personal Assistant Media and Publicity to the Minister Malam Mati Ali said the Minister reiterated the commitment of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to fully support the Nigerian Armed Forces in their efforts to combat insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of terrorism.

Badaru opined that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has provided all logistics to the Armed Forces and that they will ensure that these bandits are neutralised and dislodged permanently.

“We are working tirelessly with the Nigerian Armed Forces and other Security agencies to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians,” Minister Badaru said. “The recent flashes of kidnapping are signs that the kidnappers’ days are numbered. They will soon be defeated totally.”

While commiserating with family of the late District Head, the people of Gatawa, and the entire Sokoto State Government, he assured the family members of  other  kidnapped victims that everything possible is being done to secure their release safely.
