As the world grapples with the challenges of a global economic squeeze, Nigeria finds itself at a critical juncture. With President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the helm, the country is poised to navigate the complexities of the global economy and carve out a path to prosperity.
The importance of a stable economy cannot be overstated. It is the backbone of human existence, providing the foundation for individuals and nations to thrive. Without a viable economy, life becomes a struggle, and opportunities for growth and development are severely limited.
In Nigeria’s case, the economy has been plagued by numerous challenges, including inflation, unemployment, and a crippling infrastructure deficit. However, with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, there is a sense of optimism in the air. The administration’s 8-point agenda provides a clear framework for economic policies and programs, focusing on job creation, economic growth, food security, and poverty eradication.¹
One of the key drivers of Nigeria’s economic growth is its foreign policy direction. President Tinubu’s 4-D Diplomacy Strategy has been instrumental in promoting democracy, driving economic development, harnessing Nigeria’s demographic potential, and engaging with the Diaspora community. This approach has yielded significant economic gains, including the attraction of foreign direct investments (FDR) and the strengthening of partnerships with multilateral organizations. Foreign Direct Investment is an imperative part of economic growth and development. And again, navigating the current global economic direction based on the globalization policy will pave the way for the Nigerian nation to prosper.
As Nigeria navigates the global economic landscape, it is essential to recognize the importance of economic integration. The world is increasingly interconnected, with global economic interplay reaching $1.08 trillion daily. Nigeria must position itself to take advantage of these opportunities, leveraging its vast resources and strategic partnerships to drive economic growth and development.
In conclusion, Nigeria’s economic future is bright, but it requires careful navigation of the global economic landscape. With President Tinubu’s leadership and the Renewed Hope Agenda, the country is poised to overcome its economic challenges and unlock a brighter future for all its citizens.
*Key Recommendations for President Bola Tinubu:
*Diversify the Economy:
Reduce dependence on oil exports and promote economic diversification to drive growth and development.
*Invest in Infrastructure:
Prioritize investments in critical infrastructure, including power, transportation, and telecommunications, to support economic growth
*Promote Economic Integration:
Strengthen partnerships with multilateral organizations and leverage global economic interplay to drive economic growth and development.
*Support:
Entrepreneurship and Innovation: Encourage entrepreneurship and innovation, particularly among young Nigerians, to drive economic growth and job creation.
To continue Insha’Allah

As the clock strikes midnight, ushering in the year 2025, Nigerians stand at the threshold of a new era. An era marked by hope, optimism, and a collective resolve to overcome the economic challenges that have long plagued the nation. In this article, we’ll delve into the transformative journey that awaits Nigeria’s economy in 2025, and explore the key drivers that will propel the country toward a brighter, more prosperous future.
*The Human-Economy Nexus: A Delicate Balance
The human experience is inextricably linked with the economy. Every aspect of our lives, from the mundane to the sublime, is influenced by the economic landscape. The struggle to provide for our basic needs for life– food, water, shelter, education, healthcare, and clothing is a fundamental aspect of human existence. The economy plays a vital role in facilitating our access to these essential necessities, empowering us to lead dignified, fulfilling lives for ourselves, the family as well as the future generations especially in the African tradition of family welfarism system.
*Nigeria’s Economic Odyssey: A Story of Resilience
Nigeria’s economic journey has been marked by periods of turbulence and uncertainty. The country has grappled with a myriad of challenges, including stagnation, inflation, unemployment, and a crippling infrastructure deficit. However, despite these challenges, Nigerians have consistently demonstrated remarkable resilience and adaptability. As we step into 2025, this resilience will be crucial in driving Nigeria’s economic resurgence.
*From Precarity to Prosperity: The Path Ahead
So, what does the future hold for Nigeria’s economic growth and development? As we navigate the complexities of 2025, several key drivers will propel the country toward a brighter, more prosperous future:
Infrastructure Development: Investments (FDI) in critical infrastructure, including power, electricity, energy transportation, and telecommunications, will be crucial in unlocking economic growth and improving the business environment.
Diversification: Efforts to diversify the economy, reducing dependence on oil exports, will help mitigate the impact of external shocks and create new opportunities for economic growth.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship, particularly among young Nigerians, will help drive economic growth, create jobs, and foster a culture of self-reliance.
Good Governance: Strengthening institutions, promoting transparency, and combating corruption will be essential in creating a conducive business environment, attracting investments, and ensuring that the benefits of economic growth and development are shared equitably among all Nigerians.
*A New Era of Economic Growth and Development:
As Nigeria embarks on this transformative journey, it is essential to recognize that economic growth and development are not ends in themselves, but rather means to an end. The ultimate goal is to create a society where every Nigerian has access to the opportunities, resources, and services they need to thrive. A society where every individual can realize their full potential, contribute to the growth and development of the nation, and live a life of dignity, purpose, and fulfillment.
*Conclusively:
The year 2025 offers Nigeria a unique opportunity to break free from the shackles of economic hardship, precarity and aridity. As the country embarks on this transformative journey, it is essential to remain focused, committed, and resilient. By prioritizing investments in critical infrastructure, diversifying the economy, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, and strengthening governance, Nigeria can overcome its current economic and security challenges and unlock a brighter future, more prosperous future for all its citizens.

2024 is a Year of Stagflation, aridity and economic precarity in the Nigerian nation. As the clock strikes midnight, ushering in the year 2025, Nigerians will bid farewell to a tumultuous 2024. The past 12 months have been etched in the country’s history as a period of unprecedented economic hardship, precarity, and stagnation as a result of the implementation of W/B and IMF economic reform as it did happen in most of the Global South.
The year 2024 was marked by soaring inflation, widespread unemployment, and security challenges that threatened the very fabric of Nigerian society. The economy stuttered, plagued by stagnant growth and a crippling lack of infrastructure, particularly in the power sector. It’s 12 times electricity failure in the year 2024 in Nigeria and measures must be taken to remedy the situation.
Otherwise, investors will not have interest to invest in Nigeria despite the fact that the country is a gravitational center of investment as number 6 most populous nation in the world. Foreign Direct Investment (FDR) is the most important in economic development.
*The Root Cause of Nigeria’s Economic Woes:
At the heart of Nigeria’s economic precarity lies a critical shortage of electricity. With an installed capacity of less than 13,000 MW, Nigeria’s power sector is woefully inadequate to meet the demands of its growing population and economic interplay. This pales in comparison to other nations, such as:
Brazil, with an installed capacity of approximately 150,000 MW
South Africa, boasting around 51,000 MW
Saudi Arabia, with a impressive 80,000 MW
A snapshot of installed electricity capacity in various countries underscores Nigeria’s energy deficit:
*Africa
Nigeria: 13,000 MW (2020 est.)
South Africa: 51,000 MW (2020 est.)
Morocco: 10,000 MW (2020 est.)
Algeria: 20,000 MW (2020 est.)
Niger Republic: 200 MW (2020 est.)
*Asia
Chinese: 2,200,000 MW (2020 est.)
Indians: 380,000 MW (2020 est.)
Malaysians: 33,000 MW (2020 est.)
Indonesians: 60,000 MW (2020 est.)
Qatar: 9,000 MW (2020 est.)
UAE: 30,000 MW (2020 est.)
*Americas:
Brazil: 150,000 MW (2020 est.)
Mexico: 70,000 MW (2020 est.)
*Middle East
Saudi Arabia: 80,000 MW (2020 est.)
These figures, sourced from reputable organizations such as the International Energy Agency (IEA), the United States Energy Information, Administration (EIA), and the World Bank, highlight the glaring disparity in electricity generation capacity between Nigeria and its peers.
As Nigeria ushers in the new year, it is imperative that policy makers and stakeholders should prioritize investments in the power sector to address the nation’s energy deficit. Only through a concerted effort to improve electricity generation and distribution can Nigeria hope to break free from the shackles of stagflation and embark on a path of sustainable economic growth and development.
