…A justifiable revolt from the famous politician with astronomical fellowships.
By Shariff Aminu Ahlan
It’s indeed ironic, absurd and tantamount to childishness, foolishness, carelessness, senseless and outright reckless to tamed and caged a lion knowing fully well that it would gain freedom at will and no force would dare alter that process which is solemnly at the propagative of the captive lion.
In politics as it is in every other venture of human endeavors, exhibiting a dictatorial tendency driven by selfish ego and high-handedness with myopic and solid self deception that one is indispensable and can do and undo at will, decide the fate of others by his whims and caprices, simply because of the misplaced conviction that others are at certain privilege positions because of his deeds or presumed favour, is tantamount to nothing but a mere illusion, for it can always backfire when one least expected it.
Such is the precise situation that is raging on at Kano political hemisphere where a presumed powerful politician from the ruling party is having a field day, dictating all activities revolving round the party ranging from political appointments, elective positions slots and all other issues regarding it’s activities. Refers to the former two times governor of the state, the said powerful politician who is openly displaying a strong iron fist on the party due to the simple reason that he is the leader and the force behind it’s adoption as a party when it was struggling to wrestle power from the past administration.
A leader of a political block called Kwankwassiya which sought and adopted New Nigerian Peoples Party NNPP as a party with sole aim of fighting his political arch rival Ganduje and the then rulling party APC, in which their eventual victory at the poll brought the present leadership of the current governor of the state and members of the parliament at both state and national level.
It was at a time when Kwankwaso rallied round Kwankwassiya members to battle for political relevance in the anticipated tense political battle with rulling party, they found it imperative to seek for aggrieved politician from the other party to join hands together for the anticipated fierce political battle, Alhassan Rurum and some notable proven politicians were teemed up with, guaranteed tickets for their various political aspirations in a classical political trade off in exchange for their support towards the battle to topple the ruling party.
Alhassan Rurum was then a member of the Federal House of Representative representative Rano/Bunkure Federal constituency and ironically was then at logger head with rulling APC in the state. The fued led to his defection from the then party and allianced with newly adopted NNPP as super headed by the leader of the Kwankwassiya block. It was an alliance based on mutual understanding to politically benefit one another in the battle front. The party provides a platform and the newly acquired member to provides his formidable strong hold on his constituency for the success of the party in all fronts.
A proven politician with astronomical number of fellowship, Alhassan Rurum was a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly where he fought a tense battle in which proves his political sagacity and mastery of the game. Ousted from his exalted position based on fabricated and baseless allegations that turned out to be unfounded and politically motivated to serve a devilish purpose, the same glaring politician bounced back to occupied the same throne he vacated earlier on.
Despites his submission and obedience to the Kwankwaso, the man spirit would not be at ease if continue tolerating the high-handedness and over burden dictatorial attitude of his new found political leader. It started with unpopular scrapping and uprooting of the newly formed five Emirate Councils in which Rano Emirate Council was affected. As someone from the affected Emirate, Rurum didn’t mince words in expressing his reservation and unsupported stance on the said issue. An action from the State Government but globally known to be a policy influenced and adopted based on the directives of the presumed leader.
That was the first notable action that triggered the political acrimony between the leader and the popular House of Representative member.
The outspoken member openly displayed his anger and aligned with his people whom majority are justifiably against the unpopular and politically suicidal decision to relieved them from the abundance benefits associated with having a first class Emirate. Known to be always in harmony and same domain with the needs that are in conformity with wishes of the people from his constituency, he remains adamant in his stand despites the political implications in regards to his alliance with ruling party.
But an aftermath of the State Local Council election proves to be the last stroke that broke the camel back. Typical of the attitude of the chronic dictator, in the just concluded local government election, he once again demonstrated his selfish and dictatorial tendency by deciding to arrogate every single slots to his dictate and in the process refused display to a political lineance and accomodation to the respected members of the Federal House of Representative and Senate.
Arrogantly refused to cede a position of a local government chairman to the single member and in the process rendered them politically irrelevance to their respected constituency. It’s alleged that even the sitting governor was not spared in this brazen display of selfishness and abject dictatorial tendency.
As such it didn’t surprise or taken political watchers unaware when the independent minded and strong politician with proven self worth decided to revolt and ditched the unpopular political block by seeking political relevance somewhere. It amount to sheer display of courage, sagacity, self worth and proven integrity when the famous politician decided to call it quit from the unholy alliance.
There is no gainsaying the fact the decision of the respected member was applauded and regarded as commendable in the political cycle as thousands upon thousands are presently singing his praises while the people from his constituency are not only delighted but also reaffirmed their undying loyalty and allegiance to him. A clear signal that the house of fading authority and dictatorship is gradually deflecting and would surely crumble and thrown to dustbin in the long run.
Autocratic leadership is a leadership style where one person has complete control and makes decisions without input from others. This style of leadership can be seen in Nigeria’s political system, where some leaders have been known to exhibit autocratic tendencies. In fact, it is described as “authoritarian democracy”.
Some common characteristics of autocratic leaders include: Centralized power: Autocratic leaders hold all the power and make decisions without consulting others. Lack of accountability: Autocratic leaders are not accountable to anyone and do not have to answer for their actions.
Autocratic leaders often suppress dissent and opposition, and may use force or coercion to maintain control. Personalized rule: Autocratic leaders often rule through personalized relationships and networks, rather than through institutions.
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s story is one of power, betrayal, and political consequence. As he faces payback for his actions, it’s important to remember those who helped him rise to power. Late Senator Hamisu Musa, who mentored Kwankwaso and helped him establish necessary contacts, deserves recognition. Late Musa Gwadade and Engr Magaji Abdullahi both of blessed memories mentored Kwankwaso but were later betrayed by him, should not be forgotten.
Kwankwaso’s rise to power was built on the support of these individuals, but he repaid their kindness with betrayal. His story serves as a cautionary tale of the dangers of ambition and the importance of loyalty and gratitude.
Rtd.Brig Gen Akilu also supported Kwankwaso and late Maj-Gen Shehu Musa ‘Yar’adua made him Deputy Speaker at the prompting of Late Senator Hamisu Musa. So also late Governor Abubakar Rimi, who gave Kwankwaso the ticket to run for Federal House of Representatives despite Sa’adu Kwankwaso winning the SDP primaries, and nominated him for Deputy Speaker.
Renowned politician, Late Dauda Dangalan of blessed memories, who offered Kwankwaso the ‘Tabo’ platform through late Senator Hamisu Musa’s influence, when Kano PDP was divided between Santsi and Tabo.
History will never also forget the role of Amb Aminu Wali, the only leader among Kano PDP Conveners who stood by Kwankwaso when Rimi, Musa Gwadabe, and Dangalan abandoned him due to his political excesses and brouhaha, and many more whom he brazenly and arrogantly all betrayed.
In 1999, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje having won the PDP Gubernatorial Primaries was asked by party stakeholders to be his running mate in order to have a united front, but in 2015, Senator Kwankwaso tried to control the government of Governor, Dr Ganduje in which the later refused and presently the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), same way he is controlling Governor Abba Kabir Yusif now and turning him into his puppet for his selfish interest against the wishes of the good people of kano State.
I urge Governor Abba Kabir Yusif to stand on his legs and took over the control of his administration from the grip of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for Allah SWT will definitely hold him responsible for his actions in the state. He should learn from his immediate predecessor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who print his name in gold, with his signature projects in the state and presently serving the country at the National level.
The likes of Hon Aliyu Madakin Gini, Hon Kabiru Alhasan Rurum, Secretary to Kano State Government, Dr Baffa Bichi and many other NNPP stakeholders abandoning Senator Kwankwaso recently is a vindication on His Excellency, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Alhaji Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, Arch Aminu Dabo and many others who left Senator Kwankwaso due to his autocratic and selfish leadership in the past.
Senator Kwankwaso’s political excessess, autocratic leadership, betrayals and downfall serves as a reminder of the importance humility, loyalty, gratitude, and accountability in politics. His actions have negative political and economic consequences for Kano State, and it’s essential to acknowledge the contributions of those who helped him rise to power.
God bless Kano State.

In democratic system the issue of who you are or your color, religion, sectional or background is not what matters most. What matters most is your competence, merit, knowledge, honesty, accountability and all other leadership qualities that are needed in a leader. Leadership is between vision and practicality. Meaning that, what do you visualize and how can you put that vision into practice?
Rishi Sunak was the immediate past Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and he is of Indian origin. But he was elected Conservative Party leader before the party lost the election this year 2024 to the Labour Party. That’s democracy for you.
Once again, the Conservative Party made another history this week for electing another non white race as a Parliamentary leader. She is Kemi and originated from Lagos, Nigeria.
Who is Kemi?
Her fascinating history:
Born Olukemi Olufunto Adegoke on January 2, 1980, in Wimbledon, London, she’s a British politician who has made waves in the Conservative Party.
Early Life and Education:
Kemi spent her childhood in Lagos, Nigeria, and later moved to the United States, where her mother lectured. At age 16, she returned to the UK and lived with a family friend due to Nigeria’s deteriorating political and economic situation. She studied Computer Systems Engineering at the University of Sussex, completing her Master of Engineering degree in 2003, and later earned a Law degree from Birkbeck, University of London, in 2009.
Career:
Before entering politics, Kemi worked as a software engineer, systems analyst, and consultant. She joined the Conservative Party in 2005 and contested the Dulwich and West Norwood constituency in 2010. In 2015, she became a member of the London Assembly, replacing Victoria Borwick.
Parliamentary Career:
Kemi was elected as the Conservative MP for Saffron Walden in 2017 and later became the MP for North West Essex. She held various positions, including Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families, Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, and Minister for Women and Equalities.
Leadership Roles:
In 2022, Kemi ran for Conservative Party leader but was eliminated in the fourth round. However, she later endorsed Rishi Sunak and became Secretary of State for International Trade and President of the Board of Trade under his leadership. Following the 2024 general election, Kemi was appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government and eventually became the Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Conservative Party. Most likely, Kemi may one day be the first black Prime Minister of the UK.
Congratulations and all the best in the near future for Kemi Badenoch

The suggestion for withdrawal of tax reforms from the National Assembly came from Northern Governors, traditional rulers and during the 144 NEC’s meeting, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima. But it seemed that the Presidency don’t want what the political and economic stakeholders called upon. In a democratic setting, the core principle is that elected representatives, including state governors and other stakeholders, serve as the voice of the people.
Their primary responsibility is to fulfill the desires and needs of their constituents (voters). This fundamental concept is crucial in evaluating President Tunubu’s economic reforms. Democratic system is about doing what the voters want, not necessarily what the leader wants.
The World Bank and IMF have been advocating for economic reforms, but it’s essential to consider the unique contexts and experiences of various nations. Countries like China, India, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and other emerging markets have successfully adapted and implemented reforms over the past 40 years, providing valuable lessons. President Tunubu’s government should learn from the other global Southern Hemisphere as mentioned above. Nigeria currently has joined 20 global economic emerging nations and an attachment to BRICS; must learn from 20 economic emerging nations on how they succeeded economically.
*Key Considerations for Effective Economic Reforms and Development:
1. Fiscal Discipline:
Implementing sustainable fiscal policies to promote economic stability
2. Investment in Human Capital:
Prioritizing education, healthcare, and skill development
3. Strategic Diversification Encouraging economic diversification to reduce dependence on a single sector
4. Inclusive Growth:
Fostering equitable economic growth and social development.
By embracing these principles and learning from international best practices, President Tunubu’s economic reforms can cater to the needs and aspirations of the Nigerian people. This requires a delicate balance between economic growth, social welfare, and political stability.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) emphasizes the importance of structural reforms to boost long-term growth prospects, particularly in the context of global economic challenges.
By understanding the social acceptability of these reforms and engaging in open dialogue with stakeholders, President Tunubu can ensure that his economic agenda resonates with the people.
Ultimately, the success of President Tunubu’s economic reforms hinges on their alignment with the people’s desires and Nigeria’s unique development needs. Remember that the election year 2027 is around the corner. If care is not taken the APC’s success can’t be ascertained. Economic precarity, aridity and hardship is still trending in Nigeria.
Conclusively, this writing states that President Bola Ahmed Tunubu’s government should try to make sure that the current negative economic situation in the country has been solved ASAP.

…A giant stride that led to a sudden dead of the catastrophic calamity.
The power outage that led to devastating impact in the Northern part of the country was a disheartening occurrence which lead to the pathetic scenarios in which some companies decided to close operation, while small scale business that relay on electricity to operatie capitulated into extinction.
Its was a horrific and painful experiences in the last two weeks and one can’t precisely placed numbers in predicting the figures on the colossal lost suffered by thousands of businesses. Hospital suffered greatly and patient were left unattended due to the on going devastated power outage. Sophisticated machines that relay on uninterrupted power supply remain unused. That sensitive sector that revolved round life and death are prone to unavoidable painful mpact of the popular issue that dominated news wave all over the media.
A situation that attracted the attention of the global world as its happens to be the first time such pathetic scenarios in occuring in the region. It was later discovered that some serious sabotage occured where some bandits or terrorists destroyed and vandalized electronic tower that link transmission supply to the Northern part of the country. And ironically, the terrorists boldy decided to take control of the area by occupying and declared it under siege. The region was thrown into total blackness that led to the untold hardship and devastation.
The region slummed into turmoil and the call for a savior to rectify rants over the air. The entire region glued themselves to pleading and lamenting which naturally attracted the attention of the leaders whom repeatedly failed to lived up to expectations in several instances. They rally round themselves to ensure a solution was found.
But one individual who deserves an accolades for his consistent efforts on several occasions in regards to the issues that would ensure a general well-being of the nation. Several heroin actions occured on several occasions, but the purpose of piece is centred on his current efforts, commitment, devotion, abject seriousness, and tireless approach that contributed immensely in bringing an end to such modern tsunami that raved the region in the past two weeks. Refered to the current Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin aka Maliya.
When the devastating and crucial situation becomes the major issue in the north, the Senator was naturally aggrieved ,engraved and engrossed in searching immediate solution to catastrophe. He became relentless and deeply committed to bring an abrupt ending to the devastating saga.
And when the discussion commenced among the distinguished Senators in the apex chamber, Maliya who happened to be the one presiding sitting in the chamber spoke extensively to his distinguished colleagues, boldly elaborate the issue at hand and urge for their urgent support and absolute commitment to ensure a lasting end of the devastating menace. Informed them about his relentless efforts in which he discussed with the National Security Adviser, the TRCN Managing Director and all the head of security apparatus all in a bid to bring relief to his people.
And admiringly his efforts has finally come to fruitation and did not go in vain as everything has return to normal as electricity and distribution has been restored. For the first time in a month, light has suddenly returned to normal. And the government has promised to a keep vigil and reimposed additional security presence within the area marked with sole aim of precluding future occurrence.
Is indeed a sign of pride and uttermost satisfaction over the undeniable and undisputed contributions of the people’s Senator as he has made another history through his unique and selfless spirit which keeps pushing him to perform his heroic actions and deeds. From Northwestern Development Commission, countless numbers of projects and initiatives, advocacy for total immunity to the local governments and made it beyond manipulation of a sitting governors, foreign scholarship to deserving students and capped it up this recent contributions to the just acknowledged ending of the scaring power outrage.
The nation and the region itself would always be proud and openly beat their chest with pride as a natural humanistic soul is in the chamber and is wrapped with natural expertise of the inner work of the legislative chamber, competent and solid educational endowment, humanistic tendency and pious attitudes whose major preoccupation is centred on how to make the nation great, guarantee personal contribution in uplifting the lives of downtrodden ,and above all his personal zeal to be part of any initiative that would ensure positive impact on lives of their entire populaces.
The Senator is indeed a hero to hail and pour accolades on, for his unmatched and unchallenged inner zeal and determination to be different and in end be remember with and admiration.
