In human life nothing can be compared with the economy. Human beings are a symbol of economy. Economy has been the root cause of all wars and conflicts in all ages of human history.
For example, the ongoing wars between the Palestinians and Israel or between Russia and Ukraine have been as a result of economic interest; pure and simple. Can the world eradicate wars for human peaceful coexistence? If yes when? and if not now when? Why the United Nations slogan of YOU THE PEOPLE doesn’t work for global peace? Can BRICS nations counter the current global order for global economic interplay?
The ongoing meeting in Kazas City of Russia co-opted some countries such as Egypt, Saudi, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia and President Putin hosted 32 nations and experts assert that 10 BRICS nations have a quarter of global economic interplay meaning that, the BRICS nations are worth $60T global economy. The BRICS nations will try to rival the current World Bank/IMF hegemony in global economic policy. Turkey, Malaysia and Azerbaijan applied for membership and need to be co-opted. Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa are the original and founding members of BRICS.
Nigeria has been in an economic precarious situation, hardship, meltdown, and debts worth over $120B. The question is why Nigeria didn’t make any move to join BRICS? The answer will come later on based on fact and figure.
*JP MORGAN CHASE’s PREDICTIONS ON NIGERIA BY THE YEAR 2075: FACT OR MOCKERY?
There is no doubt that JP Morgan Bank is one of the biggest private Global Bank in the World that has been working for the past 200 years. The Bank is worth $2.6Trillion and operates worldwide with more than 100 branches all over the world. JP Morgan has a branch in Lagos, Nigeria. And it seems that JP Morgan is the largest global Bank that can make accurate predictions on global economic interplay.
It was a few months ago that JP Morgan Chase made a prediction for Nigeria to be one of the five largest economies in the world by the year 2075. That’s to say this will happen in the next 52 years. But the question one may ask is, are the predictions true, fact or mockery?
There are several questions to be asked as regards to the predictions made by JP Morgan Chase. Experts in political and market economies must critically look into these predictions made by JP Morgan Chase some months ago. How possible are these predictions?
This means that if we look back to history in 1914 when Northern and Southern Nigeria was amalgamated; the country’s population was around 20M. In 1960 when Nigeria got independence from Britain the population of the country was about 35m and 63 years after independence the population has been projected to be around 230M. By the year 2050 Nigerian population will reach 450m according to the United Nations projections. Before the end of the 21s Century the population will be as high as 800m as the global third most populous nation after India and China. Can we trust the prediction of JP Morgan Chase in the coming year 2075?
*China in 1978—–
In the year 1978 China was a nonentity in the global economic interplay despite the fact that they were the most populous country in the world. This means that in every five people in the world (then) one was Chinese. But today China is no longer the No.1 most populous country in the world but India. Most likely the Chinese have no more unproductive population. Does the population count in terms of positive economic development opportunities in the world? This writing understands that the answer is YES and at the same time No!
In 1978 Chinese leaders made a serialized strategic planning based on calendar time-frame for them to be the world’s largest economy. Hence, 40 years after (2018) China became the second largest economy in the world. There have been predictions today by experts that China may overtake America as the largest global economy by the year 2030 or somewhere around those years.
For example, America has the largest global GDP of 26% with only 4% of global population” (George Friedman, USA, 2009) than any country in the world. But “China has the most cash and gold reserves than any country in the world: $3.43 trillion worth, according to data from the World Bank/IMF as at 5th May 2023 Could this be possible and why? Can population play a significant role in leadership or is it a game of positivity, competency, qualitative, patriotism, dedication, and determination of leadership or both points?
What of Nigeria and other African Nations? Recent research indicates that Nigeria is a debtor nation likewise most African Nations and even most global South are debtors to global financial institutions. That’s a Capitalist Oriented World.
The countries with the largest cash and gold reserves from $0 to trillion $2 trillion—–
1. China $3.43 trillion
2. Japan $1.41 trillion
3. Switzerland $1.11trillion
4. United States $0.72 trillion
5. India $0.64 trillion
6. Russia $0.63
7. Hong Kong $0.5
8. Saudi Arabia $0.47
9. South Korea $0.46
10. Singapore $0.43
11. Brazil $0.36
12. Germany $0.3
(Quartz | qz.com Data: World Bank, IMF)
Hence, where are the African countries in those stronger economic calculations made by the WB and IMF? This writing understands that the 56 African Nations may not have up to 2% of global economic strength despite the fact that the Continent has about 35% of global resources. DRC, S/Africa, Algeria and Nigeria are excellent examples.
*I asked (AI)how these countries got developed? Here’s a brief overview of the relationship between the 6 countries and the IMF/World Bank:
1. China: – Received IMF/World Bank guidance during economic reforms (1980s-1990s) – Did not follow strict IMF/World Bank conditions, instead implemented gradual, state-led reforms – Successfully negotiated favorable loan terms with World Bank
1. Dubai (UAE):
– Did not require IMF/World Bank assistance due to oil wealth – Implemented business-friendly policies, attracting foreign investment – Partnered with World Bank on knowledge-sharing initiatives
1. Saudi Arabia:
– Received IMF/World Bank guidance during economic diversification efforts (2015-2019) – Implemented Vision 2030, with some alignment with IMF/World Bank recommendations – Maintained control over economic decisions, with selective adoption of IMF/World Bank advice
1. South Korea:
– Received IMF bailout during 1997 Asian Financial Crisis – Implemented IMF-recommended structural reforms, with significant economic restructuring – Gradually moved away from IMF/World Bank guidance, focusing on domestic-led growth
1. Singapore:
– Did not require IMF/World Bank assistance due to prudent economic management – Implemented economic development strategies, often in line with World Bank recommendations – Collaborated with World Bank on knowledge-sharing initiatives
1. Malaysia:
– Received IMF/World Bank guidance during 1997 Asian Financial Crisis – Implemented some IMF-recommended reforms, but maintained control over economic decisions – Criticized IMF/World Bank for overly stringent conditions, opting for domestic-led recovery
In summary:
– China and Singapore largely followed their own economic development paths. – Dubai and Saudi Arabia did not require IMF/World Bank assistance due to oil wealth. South Korea and Malaysia received IMF/World Bank guidance during times of crisis but maintained control over economic decisions making.
By the IMF’s recent reckoning, Nigeria is going to rank as Africa’s fourth-largest economy in 2024. This drop from first place sets the country behind South Africa, Egypt, and Algeria, according to IMF forecasts as of April 2024. Nigeria is estimated to post a GDP of USD 253 billion in 2024, down from USD 477 billion in 2022 and USD 375 billion in 2023.
The continent’s leader is forecast to be South Africa’s GDP of USD 373 billion, followed by Egypt at USD348 billion and Algeria at USD 267 billion. It’s prudent here to consider the stubborn trends that jeopardize Nigeria’s potential for sustainable economic performance. For one, perennial problems of inequality trouble average Nigerians, while severe poverty is exacerbated by sticky inflation.
What will be the way out for Nigeria? This writing understands that there is the need for Nigeria to join the BRICS NATIONS as soon as possible (ASAP). This is for the fact that there is a likelihood for the global Southern Hemisphere nations to change the pattern of global politics and economic interplay. The global South has 85% of the global population and the Northern Hemisphere has only 15%. Hence, there’s the possibility for the global North to change the pattern of the global governance; although this is probable but the possibility is uncertain.
Dr. Abbati Bako, political strategy and communications consultant @International Political Resource Center, Nigeria and PhD,.Scholar and Researcher in Globalization Policy@Skyline University, Kano Nigeria and Treasurer Kano Chamber of Commerce, Gsm+2349055778899 abbatibako@gmail.com
This piece reflects on the opinions and arguments surrounding the survival strategy of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state beyond 2027. Many moves, employed strategies, conspiracy theories and political calculations are, but build ups to 2027.
Believe it or not, APC is still a force to be reckoned with in Kano. Whether Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is a National Chairman of the party or not, his consolidation of solid foundation when he captained the affairs of the party for Eight consecutive years as a governor, gives the party a life saving effort, which it still enjoys.
Fragmentation is still in view within the purview of party structures as embedded in the hearts of some party members. And potential members joining the party with genuine intention, as time passes by.
As many envisage, APC’s victory in Kano hangs on the neck of who becomes its gubernatorial flagbearer and his running mate, how candidates are filled in other positions come 2027. Among other factors.
Whether Gawuna /Garo ticket is still relevant or not, only time can tell. Gawuna’s good faith in Allah’s decision during the electioneering campaign up to the election period, in 2023, meant a lot in the victory of the party. That was later scuttled by other conspiracy theories.
His relationship with people when he was Chairman Nasarawa local government reminded many to support his cause. I’m not looking at the local intrigues he faced from his local government.
While Garo’s kind hearted, apart from his trust in Allah’s decision also (as a Muslim, Mu’umin for that matter), his known contributions to human development, who sees man as the centre of development, his sharp political strategy and his style of leadership, when he was Chairman of Kabo local government, among other factors, played important role in the party’s victory, which was later scuttled by other interests in 2023 elections.
For the Deputy Senate President, Barau I. Jibrin, who for sometimes now, runs helter-skelter struggling for relevance to, according to many opinions, get gubernatorial ticket come 2027, is being paired with Senator Kawu Sumaila. To have Barau /Kawu ticket. Though Kawu is still within the fold of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
As it is now, is only a projection of what can be brought to the limelight. Kawu is indeed a force to be reckon with, in Kano South. No matter from whichever angle you are looking at the prism, Kawu Ba Kanwar Lasa Ba Ne in Kano South.
That is why some people are of the opinion that, Barau/Kawu ticket can make a difference. According to such opinion, Barau’s position as DSP, and Kawu’s political ingenuity, could make comfortable landing for APC come 2027.
These are only views expressed by people within and outside the rank of the party, APC. As related to Gawuna /Garo ticket and Barau/Kawu ticket. And let’s look at Gawuna, Garo, Barau and Kawu in their individual capacities and capabilities.
Gawuna’s great asset, for example, is his turning of all experiences, setbacks and examined opportunities to Almighty Allah.
I’m not interested in some expressed opinions about his direct relationship with his constituency and the issue of those who surround him, from the beginning to date.
Garo’s political asset is his genuine concern about what affects people with the aim of reinforcing them. He means acceptance when he says “yes.” He is not slippery in his words and actions. He too, as a Muslim, he believes Allah controls everything he faces in life.
I’m not also interested in an opinion expressed by some, that he is no longer accessible. For this I refer my reader to an article written by one Labaran Dantala, recently, captioned, “Garo, Still Available, Accessible.”
For Barau, his great asset goes to what he was able to bring to the state, using his position as Deputy Senate President, for re-approving Federal College of Education (FCE), Kano, to Federal University of Education and the creation of North West Development Commission. He too believes, Allah controls everything.
I do not care to look at his miscalculation of accepting cross-carpeters from, especially, Kwankwasiyya faction of NNPP. Who later go back to their roots. His inability to learn lesson from the then Gawuna’s Tsamar Nama operation. I do not also have any interest in what party people blame him of. That is abandoning party members and concentrating on new comers, who add no value to his political ambition.
Kawu’s greatest asset, is his wealth of experience in Kano South political history and politicking. Aramma Kawu as some address him, knows the Power of Allah in controlling everything in life and beyond.
I do not want make any comment about his ferocious postulations when it comes to politics. But some still see this as another great asset for a politician. His membership of NNPP isn’t my area of interest here. So also his being surrounded by ‘Yan Birni is not in my shopping list.
For APC to bounce back stronger and domineering, it is important to look at some handful few legislators, who, by all estimation, do more than expected.
The first and foremost person in this category is Hon Abubakar Kabir Bichi. Chairman House Committee on Appropriation. This is a gentleman who always believes in his constituency first. While doing that, he doesn’t go for other opposition party members. He, instead, takes all along.
Hon Bichi’s strategy of not embracing members of the opposition parties at the detriment of his own party members, earns him greater respect and relevance, more than the Senator representing his area. In clear terms, Hon Bichi is more powerful, in whatever estimation you can see it, than Senator Barau from that end.
Bichi according to the opinions I came across, is not eyeing to become a governor. But his strategy seems to be working far better than Barau who has been eyeing to become a governor.
More Bichis in APC means more chances for the party. Just similar to Garo, Bichi has strong home-based support from his Senatorial district. Garo enjoys such support from across the state. Bichi like Garo has never been a slippery type. He takes and speaks what he can accomplish. Not minding whose ox is gored.
To tame fragmentation at whatever length and by anticipating how hazy the environment could be, some notable youth formed themselves and become a Coalition of Youth within APC. This group did well in reawakening party members on their primary responsibilities.
It is not the interest of this write – up to create confusion where there is none, concerning the primary objective of the Coalition. Mine is just to appreciate the commitment, genuine purpose and open door direction of the Coalition. At the initial stage, I didn’t see them as an amalgamation of value addition elements. But as time passes by, I see hope and strength in them.
Notable among such youth, whose presence serves as beacon of hope are, Adamu Unguwar Gini, Musaddique Lawan Dambazau, Jijitar, Hon Ja’o’ji, Hon Maiwayo, Danyaro, M. Abdussalam Ishaq (Kumbotso) and even that boy Dini Manchester, among many others, who are numerous to be mentioned here.
I re-assured and re-confirmed to myself that, this engaging Coalition has little or no intention to wreck havoc in the party because of their self – centred interest. Though political activities are always not-interest-free. I doff my hat to them because, nowhere I heard them making disturbing noises as a group so far. Either to the leadership or to the followership. Yes, they have their shortcomings. But for now such does not becloud their immense contributions as re-awakening agents for youth movement.
My view on other dark horse(s) is built upon people’s opinion that, apart from Gawuna /Garo ticket or Gawuna as individual and Garo as individual, Barau/Kawu ticket (if that works), or Barau as an individual or Kawu as an individual, there could emerge a scenario where someone somewhere can just come from the blues and picks the ticket. That, to me, is very unlikely. Though nothing is impossible in politics.
Whether or not APC remains as one indivisible political party come 2027, in Kano, the National Chairman of the party, Dr Ganduje has all it takes to ameliorate, align and realign all existing forces within the party in the state.
As I’m rounding up, I vehemently disagree with handful few opinions, suggesting that, Barau is wasting his time, so long as he thinks he can outshine Baba Ganduje in the scheme of things. If it is true Barau is thinking along that line, I advise him to backslide. Because the situation could be dicey and deceiving.
This piece is not looking at the party leadership, at all levels. From Ward up to state level. Party management is not within the purview of this brief work. This write-up looks at the general opinions of people concerning APC’s victory come 2027 elections. I do not even care to also look at the opposition parties.

By Abbati Bako,Kent Alumni and The UK’s European University:
In the 30th Economic Summit in Abuja which was organized by the Nigerian Economic Group in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning. In his address the Senior Vice President of World Bank Group Mr. Indermit Gill claimed that the Nigerian economy will take positive shape between the “next 10 to 15 years to be reformed”. Should the economic suffering of Nigerians continue until after the next 10 to 15 years? The current measures being taken by the President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s government can’t give relief to almost 130 million vulnerable poor Nigerians through the next 10 to 15 years?
There is a serious lack of economic growth and development in Nigeria. Stagflation is becoming Nigeria’s cancerous illness which currently led the nation into intensive care units (ICU). Currently, Nigeria is Africa’s largest economy, and is at a crossroads. But before the end of the year 2024 Nigeria’s number one position as the largest economy in Africa (with GDP worth about $511B according to World Bank/IMF) will drop down to third position following South Africa and Egypt.
Nigerians are much concerned about the oil subsidy and the need to either permanently remove it or revert it back based on citizens’ demands. Many political economists have expressed concerns about the success of removing the oil subsidy in Nigeria, citing unsuccessful attempts in other nations like Kenya, Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil and South Africa and other global Southern Hemisphere and former Soviet Bloc in Eastern Europe.
The just change in government in countries like Bangladesh due to economic challenges post oil subsidy removal highlights the complexities associated with this decision. Security challenges in emerging nations of the global Southern Hemisphere contribute to economic difficulties. The impact of security challenges on economic growth is significant, raising questions about strategies needed to address these issues effectively. The leading Consultant for World Bank/IMF and advocate of Washington Consensus on economic reforms in economic emerging markets Professor John Williamson has been silent on the reforms for long.
The United Nations is questioned about its efforts in tackling security challenges, particularly regarding peacekeeping operations. Citizens are seeking answers and initiatives from the United Nations, emphasizing the importance of their involvement in maintaining peace and security worldwide as well as the connection of economic growth and development in economic emerging nations of the world.
Despite its vast natural resources and potential, the country faces severe insecurity and economic aridity, meltdown, and hardship as well as precarity. President Bola Tinubu’s administration has introduced economic reforms, but their effectiveness is uncertain as Nigeria approaches the election year 2027.
This analysis will try to examine the impact of these reforms, World Bank, and IMF interventions on Nigeria’s economic growth, stability, and development as it’s happening in almost all global South. This writing is on the same page as with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala the Director General of World Trade Organization (WTO) at the meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) some weeks ago.
She emphasized that “Nigeria has not progressed as expected, and it’s time to shift focus from blame games to concrete actions to tackle challenges and advance the country’s interests”. Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, WTO Director-General, expressed concern about Nigeria’s development, citing:
“Lack of policy consistency due to frequent changes in administration
2. Need for a social contract to protect essential policies from political changes
3. Politicization of security, contributing to current challenges
4. Urged for a unified approach to governance and protecting the nation’s interest”.
*Nigeria’s economy has struggled with:
1. Low GDP growth 2. High inflation 3. Unemployment 4. About 90% dependence on oil exports
5. Corruption like a rainy season
6. Without agrarian economic planning
7. And lack solutions to security challenges.
*President Tinubu’s Economic Reforms:
1. Diversification initiatives
2. Privatization of state-owned enterprises
3. Trade liberalization
4. Monetary policy adjustments
5. Investment in infrastructure
6. Removal of all subsidies
7. Lack of tackling stagflation in the country.
*World Bank and IMF Interventions
1. Structural Adjustment Programs (SAPs)
2. Economic stabilization loans
3. Policy advice and technical assistance
*Critical Analysis:
While President Tinubu’s reforms aim to address Nigeria’s economic challenges, there are concerns about their implementation and potential consequences. The World Bank and IMF interventions have had mixed results, with some arguing they exacerbate economic instability, precarity and aridity.
*Solutions to the problems:
1. Inclusive economic growth and development strategies based on calendar time frame
2. Human capital development
3. Infrastructure investment
4. Diversification and industrialization
5. Serious anti-corruption measures
6. Social safety nets
7. Encouraging Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from all nations of the world
8. Regional economic integration; especially within West African Subregion
9. And huge mobilization of agrarian economic development.
*Conclusion:
President Tinubu’s economic reforms and World Bank/IMF interventions must be carefully evaluated to ensure they promote sustainable economic growth, stability, security and serialization of strategic development on railroads infrastructure in Nigeria to hasten economic growth and development. And a balanced approach to addressing all the solutions mentioned above—ASAP.

The State Commissioner Ministry of Education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa gave the assurance today Thursday when he received executive members of Rumfa old boys association, class ’94 who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Hajiya Kubra Imam, the Commissioner Maintained that for education to progress, there is need for collective efforts between government, individuals and other non-governmental organizations that could work together to address challenges surrounding the sector.
He said the recent government resolve to declare state of emergency on education was a clear testimony of the administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf in bringing out solutions to the education problems.
The Commissioner hinted that in achieving this policy, government would continue to collaborate with old students and other non-governmental organizations to implement more programmes aimed at enhancing education in the state.
Doguwa explained that from inception of this administration to date, a lot had been achieved in terms of distribution of teaching materials to schools, provision of schools furnitures, renovation and construction of new classes as well as training and retraining of staff among others.
According to Doguwa, in an attempt to ensure maximum security among public schools in Kano, the administration is recruiting 17,600 security guards and local hunters across the 44 local government areas of the state.
” I want to assure you that this ministry will be fully determined to work with you and other associations that have similar visions in making sure that education in Kano is getting the needed support.
