In his efforts to upgrade the Kano Zoo to global standard and revive its lost glory, the Managing Director, Kano State Zoological and Wildlife Management Agency, Hon. Sadiq Kura Mohammed has, today, met with the officials of Kenyan government at the country’s High Commission in Abuja.
A statement issued by Farouk Isa Musa, the spokesperson of the Agency, indicated that the issue of wildlife restocking of Kano Zoo was the main agenda of the meeting. Samuel O Mogere, Charge D’Affairs at the High Commission who represented the Kenyan government expressed his country’s willingness to partner with Kano State Zoological Garden as a part of the Kenya’s commitment to develop tourism sector. The Managing Director, KAZOWMA, Hon. Sadiq Kura Mohammed thanked the Kenyan government for the support and cooperation given to the Zoo and Kano State in general. He reaffirmed his earlier commitment to wildlife conservation and modernization of the Zoo.

The Emir made the remarks while speaking at the occasion of Orientation Lectures for 2023 Batch b stream II of National Youth Corp Members held at NYSC Orientation Camp Kusalla in Karaye Local Government. Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Abubakar II said, this could be attained by being closeness and mingling with their host community. Dr. Abubakar II maintained that, “People of Kano State are very hospitable to visitors from all works of life, that is why they became famous in area of commercial activities”. The Emir said, though the ninety nine per cent of state’s inhabitants are the followers of Islam which promotes peace, but also respect other peoples religion. While congratulating the Corp Members for finding themselves in Kano as the state to carryout their national assignment, the Monarch enjoined them to be respectful of religion, culture and traditions as well as the leaders of hosting communities. He also warned them against indecent dressing. The Primary Healthcare Coordinator of Tofa Local government, Alhaji Nura Haruna Rimin Gado has expressed appreciation to Medical and Health Workers for their effort towards effective Healthcare service delivery in the area.
Alhaji Nura Rimin Gado stated this while receiving the newly Local Immunization Officer who assumed work today.
He described the former Local Immunization Officer as hard worikng, dedication and discharged his duties effectively especially in the area of Routine Immunization and urged the new Immunization officer to work hard to achieve the set objectives.

The Emir of Zazzau Amb. Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli says, the long existing relationship between his Emirate and that of Karaye will remain cordial.
Amb. Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli made this remarks while receiving the Emir of Karaye Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Abubakar II who paid condolence visit to Zazzau Emirate over the recent Mosque’s tragedy.
Amb Bamalli said, he was not surprised at the time he received the emir’s notice of visit considering the fact that, the Emir was forefront personalities to congratulate him even before formally installation as the Emir of Zazzau..
The Emir has therefore praised Emir of Karaye and for the hearty concern over the incidence and prayed that,, God Almighty will reward abundantly.
Earlier in his remarks, the Emir of Karaye Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Abubakar II disclosed that, he was at Zazzau Emir’s Palace to condole with Emir and people of Zazzau over the unfortunate Mosque tragedy which claimed lives and injuries.
Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Abubakar II prayed for the souls of those lost the lives and quit recovery injured ones.
The Emir was accompanied during the visit by District Heads of Karaye, Rogo and Kiru as we’ll as Sarkin Dawakin Tsakar gida and Dan Adala of Karaye.
The Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Tourism and Culture Hajiya Ladidi Ibrahim Garko received the representative of foreign Nationalists Residing in Kano State in her office.
The Room are open for the ideas and any form of contributions to move the state forward. The meeting was motivated by the desire to promote mutual understanding, exchange of ideas, address resentments and to bring the foreigners closer to the people and the government of Kano state. It was agreed that, it was the first time foreign nationalists were invited by any state government agencies to discuss issues of common interest. Finally it was collectively agreed that, the foreign Nationalists will cooperate with Kano State and also participate in the cultural exhibition being organized by the Ministry. “Educate Your Children to Become Useful in Society – Edu. PS charges parents“.
The Permanent Secretary Kano State Ministry of Education Hajiya Kubra Imam has charged parents to send their children to schools so as to become useful in the society.
She made the call today Saturday while inspecting the conduct of inter-state and Bi-lingual schools examination exercise in the motropolitant.
Hajiya Kubra who described education as the bedrock of any societal development, stressed that the present administration of Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf would continue to give the much needed support to the sector for the interest of it’s people.
The Permanent Secretary encouraged the pupils sitting for the examinations to do their possible best by scoring the required marks to pass the examinations.
Kano Municipal Zonal Information Officer Munzali Muhd Hausawa reports that the Permanent Secretary expressed her delights over the arrangements being made during the conduct of the examination at Gwale local government area, which she described as impressive.
Imam further commended the effort of the present administration in coming out with best policies and programmes aimed at revitalizing the education sector in the state.
AS GOVERNOR ABBA APPROVES TRAINING, SUPPORT PACKAGE FOR DISABLED, –Honourable Saji meets leaders of PWD
Ahead of an approved training and support package for People With Disability (PWD), Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Women, Children and the Disabled, Hajiya Aisha Lawan Saji, has met with various leaders of the disabled across Kano and the four emirate councils.
The meeting which was held at the Conference room of the ministry on Thursday, August 17 2023, had in attendance leaders (sarakuna) of PWD from Kano, Karaye, Rano, Gaya and Bichi.
Delivering an opening address at the meeting, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Sa’adatu Sa’idu Bala, ably represented by Director, Administration and General Services (DAGS), Hajiya Mariya Hodi, described the meeting as first of it’s kind.
She said the meeting was specifically called by the Commissioner to enable her have first hand knowledge of their worries. The Director then wished them a fruitful deliberation.
The meeting which witnessed a large turn-out of leaders of PWD, commenced with brief introduction and later, a roll out of a long list of challenges, appeals and demands.
With rampant appeal of increase in monthly allowance topping the list, the leaders present also made a near unanimous call for resuscitation of centers located at the 44 local government councils of the state.
According to most of them who spoke on the issue, the resuscitation of the centers will bring skills acquisition training closer to them and ensure better life for them and their families.
Also put forward for consideration by government was a plea for additional special schools for PWD, a way which the leaders argued is the only solution to the disturbing issue of street begging.
Acknowledging their personal disdain for street begging within and outside Kano, some of them who made the plea, argued that begging is a last option necessitated by lack of education and, or an acceptable source of income.
Other challenges put forward by the leaders was exclusion from the civil service, lack of operational and, or functional vehicles, despite the fact that their offices are recognized by governments at various levels.
They also complained of lack of government’s patronage of their finished products, lack of representation in political appointment and delay in payment of entitlements, citing current delay in release of year 2022 entitlement for the annual prayer trip to Niger Republic.
Responding, the Honourable Commissioner said the purpose of the meeting was to meet with them face-to-face and directly get to know their problems as, ‘this is a pay back period for a group of people whose roles in Governor Abba’s victory can not be forgotten”.
Speaking further, she assured that the government, through her ministry, has numerous plans for them, but quickly added that such supportive plans can only be realizable with their cooperation and prayers.
This can be done, she added, by making themselves available for training and by committing to purpose any support package given to them, revealing that there will be a monitoring and evaluation team to ensure this.
In a Press release signed by Aishatu Haruna, Director, Public Enlightenment, Ministry of Women Children and the Disabled, Kano further Stated that Honourable Saji also promised to look into the issue of entitlement for prayer trip to Niger Republic so as to know where the problem lies.
She also used the opportunity to inform them of plans by the government to include PWD in programs that will fall within government’s 100 days in office.
The Commissioner therefore, assured them of support soon, and asked them to continue to pray for the government.
Kano State Government has renew it’s pledge to revive and upgrade Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso Collage of Advance and Remedial Studies, Tudun Wada.
The State Commissioner Ministry for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata stated this during a familiarisation visit to the College.
Dr. Kofar Mata maintained that the immediate past administration neglected the institution despite its importance in Kano South, stressing that, the then administration had misperceived the idea of establishing the college in the Senatorial District in 2014 by Engr. Rabiu Kwankwaso to provide affordable and accessable education to the teeming youths in the area, he stated.
Dr. Kofar Mata added that, “With God grace our serious government will revive the lost glory of the college, not only toRe reviving alone, but we will also upgrade the college to the level of awarding NCE certificate as soon as possible,” he emphasized.
He then charged the community leaders, philanthrophists, wealthy individuals and the management of the college to put head together to support the development of the institute.
Dr. Yusuf expressed displeasure for the number of students in the college, describing it as negligible, and he called on the traditional rulers to compliment government’s effort by sensitizing the public, especially indigenes of Tudun Wada Local Government Area to allow their children to pursue their education at the institute and tasked the management to explore new ways in sourcing students within and outside the state.
He commended the Provost of the institute, Dr. Yusuf Musa Kibiya and his management for the positive record achieved by the institute within a shortage period of time and urged them to maintained.
Earlier, the Provost of the RMK Collage of Advance and Remedial Studies, Tudunwada, Dr. Yusuf Musa Kibiya, welcomed the Commissioner and his entorage for the visit and described it as worthy and come at right the time, appealing to the state Gov. Engr. Abba Kabiru Yusuf to rescue the collage by solving the numerous problems militating against the collage’s development.

The management of Kano Zoological and Wildlife Management Agency, KAZOWMA, has seek for collaboration with Nigerian Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA, to end the menace of indiscriminate felling of trees, animal trafficking, and charcoal production at Falgore Game Reserve.
The Managing Director of KAZOWMA, Hon. Sadiq Kura Mohammed lamented that the continuous indiscriminate felling of trees by illegal loggers and charcoal producers is worrisome and a source of concern to the government as the unlawful practice is threatening the only game reserve in the state.
Speaking during an advocacy visit to NESREA office in Kano, the MD decried the high level of encroachment at the forest, which he described as the only remaining game reserve in the state.
Hon. Sadiq Kura Mohammed said they were at NESREA to strengthen the bonds between the two agencies to tackle the environmental menace.
“First of all, we thank the management of this noble institution for hosting us. We want you to see us as sister agency. A collaboration between KAZOWMA and NESREA will definitely be a fruitful one.
“We are here today concerning tree felling, charcoal production, and trafficking of endangered animal species — the trio menace we are fighting at Falgore Game Reserve. We were at the game reserve a week ago. What we saw is disturbing. So, we urge NESREA to come and partner with us,” the MD solicited.
Responding, the State Coordinator, NESREA, Lukman Muhammad Lawan described felling of trees without authorisation as like killing entire human race, as trees are the source of oxygen, food and medicine.
He added that if the illegal activities are allowed to continue, the fauna and flora in the reserve will go into extinction.
Lawan said the door of NESREA is always open for collaboration with relevant agencies like KAZOWMA, assuring the new leadership of the agency an utmost cooperation and support.
In another development, the Nigerian Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA, has designated Kano Zoological Garden as animal “rescue center.”
Handing over the appointment letter to the Managing Director of KAZOWMA, Hon. Sadiq Kura Mohammed, the State Coordinator of NESREA, Alh. Lukman Muhammad Lawan said Kano Zoological Garden is the only zoo in Nigeria that received such high level recognition.
The MD expressed appreciation over the designation and promise to work deligently to uplift the standard of the Zoo for speedy development of the state.
