The Kano State Commissioner of Police CP Muhammad Usaini Gumel has presented a meritorious Award to the Executive Secretary Kano State Censorship Board, Alhaji Abba El-Mustapha.
El-Mustapha received the award today during his familiarity visit to the Kano State Commissioner of Police in his office.
Speaking to the Commissioner of Police, El-mustapha explained that the visit was aimed at introducing himself to him as the newly Executive Secretary to the Censorship Board and at the same time to use the opportunity to re strengthen the existing relationship between the Kano State Police Command and the Kano State Censorship Board lasted over the years.
El-Mustapha thanked the CP for considering him worthy for the award and pray for Allah to guide and elevate him to greater position in his career.
Earlier in his remarks, the Kano State Commissioner of Police Cp Muhammad Usain Gumel thanked the Executive Secretary of the Censorship Board Alhaji Abba El-mustapha for considering him worthy for the visit and advised him to allow his 44 local govt licensing officers to co-ordinate with the 44 local govt DPOs in order to have a good synergy of duties for the effective and efficient service delivery.
Cp Gumel further stressed that, the award was presented to the ES in order to encourage him to continue with his good working aim at bringing the positive development in the Kano State.
He further thanked the ES for doing a wonderful job through his efforts in sanitizing the activities of the Board stakeholders especially in ensuring the the protection of life’s and properties of the people of the State which according to the CP is part of of the police duties in ensuring law and order are abide by all the citizenry.
The Commissioner of Police then urged the ES to create a workshop and sensitization program that will include the police and the staff of censorship Board in order strengthen the existing friendship.
CP Gumel assured to continue with all the support and cooperation and promised to leave his door open for any further consultation.
The Executive Secretary, Kano State Censorship Boad, Alh. Abba El-Mustapha reiterated his commitment to Continue with the sanitizing the activities of traditional medicine vendors that use vulgar words in the course of promoting their products in order to attract buyers.
El-Mustpha stated this during a Press briefing at the Board shortly after the apprehension of some traditional medicine vendors who were caught red-handed using vulgar words to attract buyers.
He further stressed that, using such kind of words contradicts the tradition of Kano people and the Islamic teachings.
You may recall that, about two weeks ago, the Executive Secretary, Kano State Censorship Board, Alhaji Abba El-Mustapha announced the banning of the license of all the Board’s Stakeholders, including these traditional medicine vendors.
One of the defaulters who pleaded for annonimity, accepted their mistakes and promised to review the way they are promoting their products in the public spaces.
People should be reminded that, the primary responsibility of the Board is to filter any video, audio and other materials before production for public consumption.
El-Mustapha promised to continue with the operation until the defaulters change this bad attitudes.
Honourable Aisha Lawan Saji, the Commissioner for Women, Children and the Disabled, had on Tuesday, August 15 2023, sent a powerful delegation on a fact-finding mission to units of the ministry that are based at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano.
The delegation which was led by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Sa’adatu Sa’idu Bala, was received on arrival by the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Dr. Hussain Muhammad.
However, the CMD who gave insightful updates on numerous issues concerning the units, disclosed that he was equally not informed of an on-going repair of 100 Vascular Vaginal Fistula (VVF) victims at the hospita’s based Laure VVF Center before the repair was embarked upon.
Conducting the delegation round Laure VVF Center, Dr. Muhammad openly registered his disappointment over failure by the center to formally notify him of the massive repair before it’s commencement.
He therefore, issued a verbal warning, and promised to take appropriate disciplinary action if repeated.
However, on realizing the need for official intervention at the single ward of the center, Dr. Muhammad directed for immediate release of beddings and other items.
He specifically ordered for the release of five beds, five pillows, five mattresses, five side drawers and 30 bed sheets.
The CMD who had earlier verbally queried the ward’s matron and staff on duty for failure to provide correct inventory on bedsheets, also suggested possible adjustments and reallocation of toilet and office spaces for convenience.
At the Social Welfare Unit earlier visited by the delegation, the Officer-in-Charge, Hajiya Lauriya Sadiq, said the unit is faced with numerous problems which affect the smooth running of the unit.
At the Medical unit, leader of the delegation, Dr. Sa’adatu Sa’idu Bala, conveyed the government’s intention to resuscitate the Nursery which has remained closed since the era of COVID-19.
Some of the problems enumerated by the Office-in-Charge of the Nursery, Hajiya Aisha, included lack of baby milk, pampers, beds, bed sheets, wardrobes, flasks, feeders, drawers, clothing, weighing scale and medical personnel.
Reacting to this, the CMD promised an immediate release of drawers, mattresses and a weighing scale to the unit.
However, reacting after a tour of the three units, leader of the delegation, Dr. Bala, promised to convey all findings to Honorable Commissioner for appropriate action.
Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi said the ministry will collaborate with the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) toward curtailing the menace of trafficking in persons activities in the state.

The commissioner was speaking during a meeting with the executive members of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) in his office on Tuesday.
He said there are some bad elements in the society who embark on trafficking children from Kano to other states in southern parts of the country and converting them into other religions which he described as merciless act adding that government will not allow such actions to continue in the state.
While expressing delight over the visit, the commissioner assured them of the ministry’s full support in order to yield positive result in their activities.
Speaking earlier, the program officer of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Hajiya Habiba Mijinyawa said they were in the Attorney General’s office to congratulate him on his appointment as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Kano State and to brief him on the activities of the association.
She expressed appreciation for the warmed reception accorded them by the commissioner and promised to cooperate with the ministry whenever the need arise.

The need for the 44 Local Government Areas Essential Drug Officers of Kano State to be committed in the discharge of their Duties has been stressed.
The Director General Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) Dr Muhammad Nasir Mahmud stressed the need when he received the Executive members of the 44 Local Government Area Essential Drug Officers forum In his office.
Dr. Nasir who described the offices as backbone in ensuring success of drug administration at their respective local Government call on them to be committed in the discharge of their Duties.
In his remarks, the Forum Chairman Comrade Sabo Garba explained that the visit was aimed at Congratulating the Director General on his appointment adding that, the appointment was well deserved base on the performance of the present DG during his stewardship as the Executive Secretary of the Board. Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency is ready to work with any organisation that will help to achieve its mandate of attaining Universal Health Coverage in Kano State.
The Executive Secretary of the Agency Dr. Rahila Mukhtar made the statement when she received the Basic Healthcare Provision Funds land scape assessment team at the Agency last Friday.
The land scape assessment team leader Mr. Aliyu Mohammed who is also representative of the National Health Insurance Authority said that the exercise will be conducted in partnership with sydani group and sponsored by Bill Melinda Gate foundation.
He added that, the main objective of the assessment is to obtain a comprehensive overview of the current state of Basic Healthcare Provision Funds (BHCPF) Monitoring Learning and Evaluation system across the Gateways, identify the needs and available resources for improving the Monitoring Learning and Evaluation system and Data visibility at national state and facility level and to also determine the ICT structure and functionality of the current BHCPF MLE system and areas of strengthening.
The team leader express satisfaction on the implementation of the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund in kano state and urged the Agency to continue the good work.
The assessment team also visited State Primary Healthcare Management Board and Health facilities in three senatorial districts in the state which includes Dala LGA in kano central, Tofa LGA in Kano north and Wudil LGA in Kano south, that provides care to the beneficiaries of Basic Healthcare Provision Funds. (BHCPF).

Kano state government has announced the nullification of certificate of operation for all the private schools operating in the state with immediate effect.
Special Adviser to the governor on private and voluntary institutions Alhaji Baba Abubakar Umar announced the decision at a meeting with the proprietors of the private schools on Saturday.
Baba Umar said, all the schools are expected to collect new registration form to fill for new certificate to be issued.
The SA reiterated the state government’s commitment towards sanitizing the private schools operations and ensured adherence to established laws and guidelines.
He also charged the proprietors to pay their 10 percent tax to the government as at when due for the progress of the sector.
Baba Abubakar Umar also said his return to the position of managing the private schools, should not be an intimating for anyone as he doesn’t have intension to victimize anybody.
He reemphasize his stand for closing down any school that violate the operational laws of the state ranging from equipments, environment of operation, carricular and terms Calender
He also said a software has been developed that will address all concern from the government, school proprietors, parents and even job seekers in prison schools
The SA also assured parents of protecting thier interest and that of thier children.
Speaking on behalf of the proprietors, chairman National association of private schools owners ,Kano state chapter Alhaji Muhammad Malam Adamu, described the move as fantastic and commendable as it will further boost the education sector in the state.
He said, anything that is run without guiding law is on the path of collapse, and as private schools proprietors will work hand in hand with government to sanitize the system.
He urged thier members to cooperate with the new system as it will also be of benefits to them.
Other highlights of the meeting was a presentation of the newly developed software for gathering database of private and voluntary institutions in Kano, as well as commencement for issuance of forms for new registration of the schools .
The Commandant of Nigerian Navy Dawakin Tofa Logistics College, Commodore J K Adeniyi has assured of the college maximum support towards ensuring security of lives and property of the people of the state and the country at large.
He gave the assurance when he received the Chairman of Dawakin Tofa Local Government and members his council who called on him in his office.
Commodore J K Adeniyi spoke at length on the cordial relationship existing between the hosting community and the college maintaining that the institute will step in efforts in carrying out corporate social responsibilities to the hosting community.
He added that they would soon established a Primary school and a tertiary institute for the teeming Children and youth of the area to enable them access qualitative education.
Speaking,the Chairman of Dawakin Tofa Local Government council, Alh Ado Tambai kwa said the visit to the Navy logistic college was to cement the already existing relationship between the dou organisations.
Alh Ado Tambai kwa assured that the council would continue to support the college for the benefit of the people of Dawakin Tofa Local Government and beyond.
He Commended the Navy Scribe for his commitment towards ensuring maximum security in Dawakin Tofa Local Government in particular and the State in general.
The chairman added that the council would co-opt the Navy in the local security council to achieve the set goal.
